Students with a disability

Helping Your Child Reach Their Full Potential

Wondall Heights Inclusive Support Program (HUB), delivers support to children with a verified disability such as Autism, Intellectual Disability, Physical Impairment, Hearing Impairment and Visual Impairment. Our purpose is to support these children to successfully participate in school life by:

  • Providing a Special Education Program (SEP) teacher to case manage each student and co-ordinate support on a daily basis by the teacher and/or teacher aide.
  • Working with their Special Education Program teacher or teacher aide 1:1, in a small peer group or whole class sessions.
  • Having an Individual Support Program where stakeholders identify and target a small number of goals to be worked towards in addition to regular curriculum.
  •  Liaising with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists to provide individualised programs designed by them and implemented by Special Education Program staff.
  •  Working in conjunction with other agencies such as Autism Queensland to address specific individual needs.
  • Providing a lunchtime program run by Special Education Program staff where children can access a quieter alternative to the playground.  Here students have the opportunity to learn social discourse and skills to interact with peers, necessary for making the transition into the playground at a later stage.
  •  Teaching of social skills is conducted in a once a week 1 hour peer group program.  During these sessions our students can learn and practice social skills identified as being integral to successful inclusion in all school environments.

While our emphasis is on inclusion each student’s program is individualised to the degree that ensures we may best meet their needs.

All students at Wondall Heights State School are expected to understand and abide by the rules and guidelines to ensure safety and respect for all.  A high priority is placed on the right of each teacher to teach and each student to learn without disruption.
