Dance

The Wondall Heights Dance Team began in 2007 and has gone from strength to strength over the years. We perform at various events throughout the year including Wakakirri, Manly Halloween Street Parade, school Fete and school assemblies. Our main performances are our mid year and end of the year concert. Some of our achievements include-

Wakakirri 2009
As first time Wakakirri performers Wondall Heights achieved 1st place for the Brisbane region (Division A – beginners).

Wakakirri 2011
Wondall Heights was fortunate enough to once again win for the Brisbane region and also went on to receive top honours of 1st place for Queensland (Division B – experienced).

Creative Generation 2012
47 Wondall Heights students had the amazing opportunity of performing at the Brisbane Convention Centre with some of the best state school dancers, singers and musicians in Queensland.

Wakakirri 2014
Wondall Heights S.S. once again paricipated in the national story dance competition - Wakakirri. Wondall received the Best Comedy Award for their performance and made it through to the Brisbane finals.

Dance For Daniel Competition 2015
The Wondall Dance Team entered a video dance competition sponsored by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and Dance Fever. The competition was open to all schools in Queensland and NSW. Each video entry needed to include a special message. Wondall Heights chose 'Bullying' as their theme.
We were lucky enough to receive the results in time for the dance concert so that we could announce that
Wondall had received 2nd place for their entry.

Rehearsals

This year we have introduced two afternoon rehearsals a week. The Tuesday session is for years 4 and 5 Dance Team members.
Thursday's session is for year 6 Dance Team members. Both sessions are at 3:00 - 4:00pm in the hall.

Rehearsal Procedures

All students will take part in a thorough warm up. Any student that does not warm up will not be allowed to continue with the rehearsal.
The dance classes are based on developing skills not just dance moves. Students learn stage craft, different styles of dance and performance skills.
Students with injuries should still be present at every rehearsal and watch from the side.

School bags are to be brought to rehearsals and left in a designated area.

We look forward a fabulous year of Dance!!
