Author in Residence

We are very excited – week ten is our Author in Residence week!
Andrew King is a Brisbane-based consulting engineer.  While playing with his young son in sandpits and playgrounds, an imaginary friend started joining them – a tip-truck driving teddy-bear who designed and created engineering projects as they played. Playtime led to night-time stories, and Andrew began to dream about sharing these stories with a wider audience, introducing engineering processes to young children.  And so, Engibear was born!
Andrew and his illustrator, Benjamin Johnston (an architect and children’s book illustrator) have three published books. Their first, Engibear's Dream, was awarded the President's Prize at the 2012 Australian Engineering Excellence Awards. Engibear’s Bridge was published in 2014, and Engilina’s Trains is hot off the press, arriving only weeks ago. We, of course, have copies of each book so our students will be great friends of Engibear and Engilina by the time Andrew arrives.
This event has been funded by our P&C, and every student at Wondall will have the opportunity to meet and work with Andrew on two occasions during the week. We thank the P&C for their support of this program, and welcome Andrew to wonderful Wondall! Andrew will also be introducing himself at our Whole-School Assembly on Monday, 11 September.
